I haven’t been very active on my blog in the past, so many of my most meaningful experiences have gone unshared. Today, I want to reflect on one that shaped me not just as a professional, but as a person.
Early in my career, before transitioning into the corporate world, I worked as a Special Education Teacher. One of my most cherished experiences was teaching Anila, an incredible student who refused to let anything hold her back. Anila has cerebral palsy, which made traditional learning methods challenging. But that never stopped her! Instead, we adapted. She couldn’t read or write conventionally, so we found new ways—doing complex math entirely in her mind, problem-solving without a pen or paper, and proving that intelligence isn’t limited to one way of learning.
Our journey together was so special that I was invited for an interview by mytv Bangladesh, a national television network in Bangladesh, to speak about our experience—her struggles, my teaching/ our learning methods, her determination, and what it truly means to redefine the limits of possibility.
I was her teacher for four years, but more importantly, I became her friend for life. Even now, despite the miles between us, she never forgets to call me when she reaches a new milestone. And today, I am beyond proud to share that she has completed her Bachelor’s degree and is now preparing for her Master’s.
Looking back, I realize that teaching her was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It reinforced my belief that resilience, adaptability, and the right support system can break any barrier.
To Anila and every student who dares to dream beyond limitations—you are the real inspiration.
